Swim Teams Win Big; Prepare For WIAC Championships

Teams Will Compete Feb. 17-19 in WIAC Championships

The UW-River Falls men's and women's swimming and diving teams both competed against Hamline University in St. Paul, Minn., on Saturday afternoon and both teams gained confidence with big wins.

The Falcon men defeated Hamline, 145-43. The women took down the Pipers, 153-32.

Kevin O'Brien (Hastings, MN, Hastings) swam extremely well in the meet as he won the 50 freestyle with a time of 23:61.He won the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 56:41 beating his competitors by eight seconds. O'Brien also teamed up with David Slain (Roseville, MN, Roseville)Peter Brudzinski (Oakdale, MN, Tartan) and Hunter Magdanz (Berlin, Berlin HS) to win the 200 yard medley relay in 1:50.66.

The women were led by Hannah Wiseman (Chippewa Falls, Chippewa Falls) who won the 1000 yard freestyle with a time of 11:26.48 and the 100 yard backstroke in 1:05.77.

Maggie Klabunde (Fridley, MN, Fridley) took first place in the one-meter diving. She scored a 203.059 beating her opponents by five points.

The Falcon swimming and diving team's next meet is the WIAC Championships which will take place at the Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center in Brown Deer. The Championships will run from Feb. 17-19.
