Rose Tusa (Roseville, MN, St. Anthony Village) tossed a five hitter and struck out 12 to help the Falcon softball team to a 4-1 win over Augustana College on Saturday afternoon in Moline, Ill.
Tusa pitched all seven innings and allowed five singles. The right hander struck out the first four batters she faced and retired the first seven hitters. The only run Tusa allowed came in the seventh and was unearned. She did not walk a batter. With the win Tusa is now 3-4.
The Falcons scored four runs on eight hits and made one error. UWRF scored a single run in the fourth and three in the fifth.
Haley Selkirk (Northfield, MN, Northfield) led off the fourth with a single to left and she advanced to second on a sacrifice by
Hayley Buchanan (Eden Prairie, MN, Eden Prairie).
Ashley Goettl (North Mankato, MN, West) then singled to center to score Selkirk with the game's first run.
The Falcons added three runs on four hits in the fifth. With out out
Alyssa Black (Mankato, MN, West) singled to left and
Nicole Lubahn (Wanamingo, MN, Kenyon-Wanamingo) reached first on an infield single.
Shawna Middleton (Hastings, MN, Hastings) doubled to left to score Black and put Lubahn on third. Selkirk grounded out to short and Lubahn scored on the play. Buchanan then singled to left to score Middleton.
Black finished 2-3 with a run scored for the Falcons.
The Falcons, now 6-9 overall, will play two more games at the Augustana Tournament on Sunday. At 10 a.m., the Falcons play Coe and at noon they play Wartburg.
