The Falcon softball team split in two games play at the Augustana Tournament played Sunday in Moline, Ill.
The Falcons lost to Coe, 6-2, in the first game, but came back with a 4-0 win over Wartburg in game two.
UWRF, now 7-10 overall, will next open WIAC play on Saturday at UW-La Crosse. La Crosse is the defending WIAC champions and were picked to win the league title in the annual Coaches' poll.
Coe 6, River Falls 2
Coe scored six runs on nine hits and made one error in the win over the Falcons. They scored single runs in the first, fourth and seventh innings. The Falcons scored two runs on three hits and made five errors. UWRF scored both of its runs in the third.
Hayley Buchanan (Eden Prairie, MN, Eden Prairie) had a double and
Alyssa Black (Mankato, MN, West) and
Nicole Lubahn (Wanamingo, MN, Kenyon-Wanamingo) also had hits for the Falcons.
Rose Tusa (Roseville, MN, St. Anthony Village) started on the lound and worked the first five innings. She allowed four runs and eight hits. She struck out five and didn't walk a batter.
Jamie Klein (Elk River, MN, Elk River) worked the last two innings and allowed two runs on one hit. She didn't walk a batter and struck out one.
River Falls 4, Wartburg 0
Tusa struck out a career-high 17 batters in the team's 4-0 win over Wartburg. She went the distance to get the win and allowed just two hits. Both hits were singles and came in the fourth and sixth innings. She walked three. She struck out four batters in a row twice in the contest.
The Falcons scored four runs on 10 hits and made no errors. Wartburg had the two hits and made one error.
Patty Olson (Roseville, MN, Roseville) was 2-3 with a double and one RBI.
Shawna Middleton (Hastings, MN, Hastings) was 3-4 with a double. Buchannan was 3-4 with a double.
Ashley Goettl (North Mankato, MN, West) and Black also had RBIs for the Falcons.
