Falcons Sweep UW-Platteville

The Falcon softball team swept the Pioneers of Platteville winning the first game 2-0, and then had to come from behind to win the second game 7-5.

River Falls 2, UW – Platteville 0

Rose Tusa (Roseville, MN, St. Anthony Village) pitched a complete game shut-out for the Falcons. Tusa face twenty-six batters only giving up two hits.  Tusa's no hitter was broken up in the sixth inning.

Amanda Ryder (Menomonie, WI, Menomonie) had the best day at the plate for the Falcons going 2-3 with 2 RBI's. Ryder's first RBI was a double to left scoring Hayley Buchanan (Eden Prairie, MN, Eden Prairie) in the fourth inning. Buchanan would also add a double in the sixth and score later in the inning off a sacrifice from Ryder. 

River Falls 7, UW – Platteville 5

Sarah Bohlen (Rochester, MN, Mayo) started on the mound for the Falcons. She pitched four innings giving up four runs on six hits.  Two of the runs given up came in the second inning when Platteville would jump out to an early lead. River Falls would tie the score in the top of the fourth when Hayley Buchanan would score off a single from Shawna Middleton (Hastings, MN, Hastings)Abby Spurley (Mineral Point, Iowa-Grant) would pinch run for Ashley Goettl (North Mankato, MN, West) and score on a wild pitch.  Platteville would extend their lead in the bottom of the Four scoring two more. The Pioneers would add another run in the fifth. The Falcons came around in the sixth inning getting a three run homerun off the bat of Dana Book (Brooklyn Center, MN, Champlin Park).  River Falls would score four runs total in the sixth inning and add another in the seventh.

Rose Tusa pitched the last three innings for the Falcons. Tusa faced thirteen batters and gave up one run on three hits.  Tusa would earn the win in the game improving her record to 7-5

The Falcons overall record improves to 10-11. River Falls is also off to a fast start in the WIAC with a 3-1 record.

UWRF's next game is  a doubleheader series Monday at home against Hamline University. First pitch is at 4 p.m.
