Softball Team Opens WIAC Tourney With Win

Falcons Top Oshkosh, 4-1

The Falcon softball team scored four runs in the sixth inning to beat UW-Oshkosh, 4-1, in the first game of the WIAC softball Tournament played Friday morning at Ramer Field.

The Falcons scored four runs on just four hits and made no errors. UWO scored one run on four hits and made two errors.

Trailing 1-0 going into their half of the sixth, the Falcons banged out two hits and capitalized on two Titan errors to score four runs.

Patty Olson (Roseville, MN, Roseville) led off with a walk. Nicole Lubahn (Wanamingo, MN, Kenyon-Wanamingo) put down a bunt, but a throwing error allowed Olson to advance to third and Lubahn to second with no outs. Ashley Goettl (North Mankato, MN, West) doubled to left center to score Olson with the tying run and put runners on second and third with one out. After a second out, Alyssa Black (Mankato, MN, West) singled to score Lubahn and give the Falcons a 2-1 lead. Jessie Bester (Hampton, MN, Randolph) than reached first on an error and the play scored both Lily Buckley (Menomonie, Menomonie), who was running for Goettl and Black. 

Rose Tusa (Roseville, MN, St. Anthony Village) went the distance on the mound to get the win - she is now 16-6 this year. She allowed one earned run and four hits. She struck out six and walked three.

The Falcons, now 23-13 overall, will next play at 10 a.m., on Saturday against the loser of the Eau Claire-Whitewater game.
