The Falcon softball team beat No. 8 ranked UW-Whitewater, 5-2, on Saturday morning at Ramer Field in the WIAC Tournament.
The Falcons will play again today at 4 p.m., against an opponent to be determined.
This is the third time in a week the Falcons have topped UWW. Last Sunday the Falcons won twice against UWW, 8-7 and 5-4.
The Falcons scored three runs in the second inning and two in the sixth. UWW scored its two runs in the seventh. UWRF scored five runs on six hits and made two errors. UWW scored two runs on eight hits and also made two errors.
Rose Tusa (Roseville, MN, St. Anthony Village) went the distance on the mound for the Falcons to pick up the win. She is now 17-6. She allowed two earned runs and eight hits. She struck out nine and walked two.
In the second,
Amanda Ryder (Menomonie, WI, Menomonie) led off with a single to left center.
Alyssa Black (Mankato, MN, West) laid down a bunt and a throwing error on the play allowed Ryder to score and Black go all the way to third. Later in the inning
Dana Book (Brooklyn Center, MN, Champlin Park) hit a two-run homer to left center to put the Falcons ahead, 3-0. It was Book's sixth homer of the year.
The Falcons added two more runs in the sixth with two out.
Hayley Buchanan (Eden Prairie, MN, Eden Prairie) led off with a single to left and after an out, Black singled to center to put runners on first and second.
Jessie Bester (Hampton, MN, Randolph) then singled to center to score Buchanan.
Emily Olson (Roseville, MN, Roseville) pinch hit and walked and Book then reached on an error and Black scored the team's final run on the play.
UWW scored two runs on three hits in seventh before Tusa got the final out of the game on a ground out.
The Falcons improve to 24-13 overall with the win.
