Although the women's volleyball team was swept by host school UW-Whitewater in the first day of the UW-Whitewater invite,
Danielle Gibbemeyer (St. Paul, MN, Cretin-Derham Hall) reached 1,000 kills in her illustrious career. She came into the match needing only four, and she got exactly that to bring her four-year total to 1,000.
Game scores for the match were 25-13, 25-15 and 25-22.
Jean Theis (Shakopee, MN, Shakopee) led the Falcon offense and all players with 11 kills. The Falcons were plagued by attacking errors. They finished the match with 21, while managing a .095 hitting percentage throughout the match. Whitewater was just enough better, as they hit .283 with only 12 attacking errors.
Erin Green (Fridley, MN, Fridley) added six kills and
Brianna Muetzel (Oakdale, MN, Cretin-Derham Hall) five of UWRF's 31 kills.
UWRF also allowed UWW to have 11 service errors. The Whitewater defense kept UWRF without an ace.
Courtney Preiner (Oakdale, MN, Hill-Murray) led the defense with 10 digs and
Mackenzie Suda (Ham Lake, MN, Blaine)led the Falcons with 22 set assists.
With the loss the Falcons fall to 19-10. UWW is now 20-9. However, the Falcons will get another chance at the Warhawks in their official WIAC match on Friday, Oct. 26. The Falcons are now 12-43 all-time against UWW.
Until then, the Falcons will continue play at the Whitewater invite on Saturday as they take on Edgewood College at 10 a.m. followed by Illinois Wesleyan at noon.
