Holst Reaches 1000 Career Points in Falcons' Loss to Whitewater - Video Added

Box Score

Alise Holst (Plainview, MN, Plainview-Elgin-Millville) scored her 1000th career point and had a career-high 28 points, but it wasn't enough as the Falcons fell 67-61 to UW-Whitewater at the Karges Center.

With 15 minutes to play, Holst scored her 1000th career point on a completed three-point play.  It was just one of the many highlights for the senior, who bested her previous career high in points by seven.  Her previous career high was 21, which came on Nov. 18, 2011 in a Falcon victory over Simpson College.  Holst also added 12 rebounds for her third double-double of the season.

It was also a career day for fellow senior Tiffany Gregorich (Altoona, WI, Altoona).  Gregorich tied her career-high in rebounds with 11.  She also had 11 rebounds against UW-Eau Claire on Jan. 14.  She also had eight points to come up just shy of a double-double.

Another senior who came close to a double-double was Maranda Dohrn (Lake City, MN, Lake City).  She had 11 rebounds and nine points throughout the game.  As a team, the Falcons out-rebounded Whitewater 55-34.

Brittany Gregorich (Altoona, WI, Altoona) added seven points and seven boards for a well-rounded performance.

In the end, it was poor shooting that hurt the Falcons.  UWRF shot just 28.8 percent from the field, whereas UWW shot 44.8 percent in a game the Falcons never led.  UWW would lead by as many as 17 with 16:28 to play, and the Falcons made a valiant effort at the comeback, to come within five with 42 seconds remaining.  However, it was too little too late, and the Falcons' six-game winning streak was snapped on the final day of the regular season.

With the loss, the Falcons fall to 12-4 in the WIAC and 20-5 overall.  Whitewater is also 12-4 and 20-5.  The Warhawks have now swept the Falcons in the regular season.  On Jan. 7, UWW defeated the Falcons 64-53.  This loss was only the second loss for the Falcons at the Karges Center where they are now 9-2.  The Falcons are 25-42 all time against the Warhawks.

UWRF came into the game ranked No. 18, while UWW came in ranked No. 25 in the D3Hoops.com poll.

Up next for the Falcons is the first round of the WIAC Tournament.  Action is set to get underway at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 21 against UW-La Crosse.  The Falcons are the No. 4 seed for the tourney, and will host the No. 5 seed, La Crosse at the Karges Center.

During the regular season, the Falcons beat UWL 56-47 on Jan. 11 in La Crosse and 69-53 on Feb. 15 at the Karges Center.
