River Falls 3, Southwestern 0
Both teams had six hits, and the difference in the game came with three Southwestern errors that accounted for two unearned runs.
Sarah Bolen picked up the win on the mound and is now 1-0. She worked five innings and allowed just three hits - all singles. She struck out one and showed great control by not walking a batter.
Rose Tusa picked up her second save by working the last two innings. She allowed three hits - once again all singles. Of the six outs she needed to get, five came by strike outs. After allowing two hits in the sixth, she struck out the side. She also struck out the leadoff batter in the seventh.
The Falcons scored twice in the fourth and once in the seventh. In the fourth, Bohlen led off with a single to left and
Patty Olson sacrificed her to second. Bohlen scored on the play on an error by the third baseman.
Jamie Klein then reached first on an error and
Kristy Martinson pinch ran. Martinson stole second, and after a second out,
Hayley Buchanan delivered a clutch two-out single to center to score Martinson. In the seventh Jessie Bester
was hit by a pitch. Katie Zais
pinch ran for Bester and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Ashley Goettl# then singled to center to score Zais with the third run. Goettl finished with two hits, the only Falcon who had a multiple hit game.
River Falls 3, Endicott 2
The Falcons finished game two with 11 hits, the second most in a single game this year. The Falcons had two errors and one led to an unearned run. Endicott scored two runs on five hits and they had no errors. UWRF scored a single run in the second and two in the fifth. EC scored both its runs in the sixth.
Once again the Falcons got two solid pitching performances. Tusa started and got the win, she is now 4-2. She allowed five hits and two runs - one was unearned. She struck out six and walked two.
Abbie Morris came in to pitch the bottom of the seventh with a 3-2 lead and she did the job to pick up her first save of the season. She didn't allow a hit, walked one and struck out one.
Goettl led off the second inning with a single to center. After an out,
Amanda Ryder, playing in just her second game of the year for the Falcons after finishing her hockey season on Saturday, singled to left to put runners on first and second. After a second out, the Falcons got two infield hits to score their run.
Danielle Lagerstrom singled to short to load the bases. Then
Lily Buckley singled to third to score Goettl.
UWRF added two more runs in the fifth using back-to-back doubles. Buchanan led off with a single to center and she advanced to second on the play. After an out, Bester doubled to left to score Buchanan. Zais pinch ran for Bester and Goettl then doubled to right to score Zais.
Endicott used three hits and two Falcon errors to score twice in the sixth. But after the two runs scored, Tusa got the last two outs on a grounder and line out. Morris then came in and secured the win with a solid pitching performance in the seventh.
"We're still experimenting to find the right combinations both on the mound and in the lineup," said Falcon Coach
Faye Perkins. "Finding that right combination - especially on the mound - will be the key to any success we have.
"I thik we're finally getting used to hitting outside. We pounded out 11 hits in the second game, but left 10 runners on base in the first game. Goettl continues to hit the ball well going 2-2 with two walks in the first game and 2-3 in the second with a stand-up double. The good thing about the team is that there's a lot of depth at pitching and most of the positions. Now we just have to find the right combinations."
