Softball Team's Win Streak Reaches Six

Falcons Beat Transylvania, Lake Forest

The Falcon softball team now has a six-game winning streak after earning two more victories on Thursday in Orlando, Fla.

The Falcons opened with a 6-3 win over Transylvania College and came back with an 8-3 win over Lake Forest.

The Falcons, now 8-3 overall, have two more games to play on their spring trip to Florida. On Friday the Falcons play Illinois Wesleyan at 9 a.m., and Southwestern University at 1 p.m. The Falcons have already played both games in Florida. Illinois Wesleyan took an 8-1 win on Sunday and the Falcons beat Southwestern, 3-0, on Wednesday.

River Falls 6, Transylvania 3
Hayley Buchanan had the hot bat going 4-4 with two runs scored, and pitcher Abbie Morris picked up her second win of the year. UWRF scored six runs on 10 hits and made three errors. TU scored three runs on eight hits and they made three errors.

The Falcons had 10 hits and scored five runs in the second and then added a single run in the sixth. In the second the Falcons scored their five runs on four hits and one Pirate error. The big blow in the inning was a three-run homer by Morris - it was her first of the year. Later in the inning Jessie Bester hit a sacrifice fly to center to score Nicole Lubahn and Ashley Goettl singled to center to score Buchanan. 

In the sixth, Buchanan reached first on an infield single and went to second on a wild pitch. She then scored when Amanda Ryder doubled down the left field line.

Morris work the first four innings. She allowed four hits and three runs - only one was earned. She struck out three and walked one and she is now 2-0 this year. Jamie Klein worked one inning and allowed four hits. Rose Tusa# worked the final two innings and picked up her third save of the year. She did not allow a hit and struck out one. 

River Falls 8, Lake Forest 3
Tusa struck out a season-high 13 and Goettl went 3-3 with four RBI to help the Falcons to the win. The eight runs are the most scored by UWRF in a game this season.

The Falcons had 11 hits - the fourth time this year they have had 10 or more hits in a game and a feat they have accomplished in three straight games. The Falcons scored twice in the first and once in the third and had another five-run inning, in the fourth.

Tusa had another outstanding outing and is now 5-2. She allowed just five hits and three earned runs. She walked just one. She struck out two batters in four innings and struck out the side in the third. Seven of the strike outs were looking.

Goettl was one of four Falcons who hada  multiple hit game. She doubled home a run in the first and hit a three-run homer in the fourth. It was her team-best third homer of the year. Morris was 2-4 with two runs scored and one RBI. She doubled home a run in the first. Amanda Ryder was 2-3 with two runs scored. Klein finished 2-3 with one RBI. UWRF finished the game with four extra base hits- Lily Buckley doubled to lead off the fourth.
