Box Score 2 The Falcon softball team had plenty of offense in a two-game sweep in a non-conference series at Hamline University on Tuesday afternoon.
The Falcons won both games in five innings, 12-0 and 20-4.
UWRF, now 15-8 overall, will play another non-conference doubleheader on Thursday at Bethel University. The first pitch is at 3:30 p.m.
The Falcons banged out 13# hits in the two games combing for ? homers and ? doubles.
River Falls 12, Hamline 0
UWRF sent 11 batters to the plate in the first inning and scored six runs to take the early lead. The Falcons added three runs in the fourth and fifth innings, UWRF scored 12 runs on 13 hits and made no errors. HU had five hits and made four errors.
In the first the Falcons scored their six runs on five hits and two Piper errors.
Patty Olson and
Ashley Goettl both had RBI doubles in the innings.
In the RF fourth,
Lily Buckley scored two runners with a single to left. UWRF scored its three runs on four hits. In the fifth, the Falcons scored three runs on three hits and an error. Two of the runs scored on a throwing error. Olson knocked in one run with a single and
Sarah Bohlen also had a RBI in the inning.
Olson finished 2-4 with two RBI and a run scored.
Jessie Bester was 2-4 with two runs scored and one RBI.
Abbie Morris was 2-3 with a run scored and
Nicole Lubahn was 2-2 with a run scored.
Rose Tusa picked up the win on the mound and she is now 9-3. She worked four innings and allowed no runs and three hits. She struck out 10 and didn't walk a batter. Jamie Kline worked the final inning and allowed no runs on two hits.
River Falls 20, Hamline 4
The Falcons had an even bigger first inning in the second game scoring 13 runs and senings 18 batters to the plate.
UWRF scored 20 runs on 21 hits and they made two errors. HU scored four runs on five hits and made seven errors. UWRF added one run in the second and three runs in both the fourth and fifth innings. HU scored three times in the third and once in the fifth.
UWRF scored all of its runs in the first with two outs. Bester hit a two-run homer to left, it was her second of the season. Later,
Hayley Buchanan singled home two runs and Goettl hit a three-run homer to right center. And later, Bohlen hit a two-run homer to right - it was her second of the year.
In the second Bohlen singled home Olson, who had also singled earliler in the inning.
In the fourth inning the Falcons scored three runs on three hits and two Piper errors.
The Falcons used the long ball to score three more in the fifth. After Lubahn led off with a single to left,
Danielle Lagerstrom hit her first homer of the year over the left field fence. Goettl was up next and she hit a solo homer to left center. It was her team-best seventh homer of the year.
Morris went the distance on the mound to get the win and she is now perfect with a 4-0 record. She allowed five hits and four runs, two were earned. She walked four and struck out a career-high eight batters.
The 20 runs by the Falcons was the most since the 2006 season when UWRF beat Macalester, 20-0, in a contest at the Rebel Spring Games in Florida. The 20 runs in a game is third most in school history. The record is 40 runs in a 40-0 five-inning game against North Central in 2006. The second most is 27 runs scored in a 27-0 win over North Central in 2006.
