Box Score 2 The Falcon softball team had its eight game winning streak snapped splitting a WIAC doubleheader at UW-Stout on Wednesday afternoon.
The Falcons won the first game, 7-6, but lost the second contest, 3-2.
The Falcons, now 20-9 overall and 5-3 in the WIAC, will next play another WIAC doubleheader at UW-Oshkosh on Saturday. The first pitch is at 2 p.m.
River Falls 7, Stout 6
The Falcons had a big lead and had to hold on to get the win in the first game. The Falcons led 7-0 after batting in the sixth, but Stout scored six runs in the sixth to make it a game. Stout also had two runners on base when the game ended on a long fly to left.
The Falcons scored a single run in the first when
Ashley Goettl hit a homer to start the inning. It was her team-best 10th round tripper of the season.
Then the Falcons, who finished with 14 hits and three fielding errors, added four runs in the third using six hits and one Stout error.
Hayley Buchanan led off the inning with a double to center and she was sacrificed to third by
Nicole Lubahn.
Patty Olson singled to right to score Buchanan and Goettl followed that with a double down the left field line to put runners on second and third. An error brought Olson home.
Amanda Ryder pinch hit and singled home Goettl with the third run of the inning. After a second out Amber O'Connell doubled to left to score Hayley Selkirk who pinch ran for Ryder.
The Falcons added another run in the fourth. Buchanan led off with a single to center and after two outs she advanced to second on a wild pitch. Goettl was intentionally walked. Selkirk then came through with a single to score Buchanan.
With one out in the fifth,
Sarah Bohlen hit a solo homer to increase the Falcon lead to 7-0. It was her third home run of the season.
Stout scored six runs on seven hits and they made two errors. Stout scored its six runs on four hits and two Falcon errors.
The Falcons had 14 hits led by Buchanan who was 4-5 and she scored twice. Olson (2-4), Goettl (2-3), O'Connell (2-4) and Bohlen (2-3) also had multiple hit games. Goettl scored twice.
Rose Tusa started on the mound and worked the first three innings and then pitched the last 1.1 innings. She allowed three hits, all singles. She struck out six and didn't walk a batter.
Abbie Morris pitched 2.2 innings and allowed six runs, only one was earned. She allowed four hits and struck out four. She earned the win and is now 5-0. Tusa picked up her fourth save of the year.
Stout 3, River Falls 2
UWS scored all three of its run in the bottom of the seventh to earn the split. The Falcons had a 2-0 lead, scoring both of its runs in the third, before Stout got the win.
The Falcons scored two runs on just four hits and made one error. UWS scored three runs on eight hits and they made three errors.
In the third the Falcons scored twice using one hit and one Stout error. Buchanan reached first on a fielder's choice and Selkirk reached first on an error. Olson then walked to load the bases. Ryder also reached first on a fielder's choice and on the play Buchanan and Selkirk scored.
UWS scored its three runs with a walk, two hits, one was a triple that scored two runners and a sacrifice fly that scored the winning run.
Tusa went the distance on the mound and took the loss. She is now 14-5. She allowed eight hits and three earned runs. She struck out five and walked one.
