Box Score The Falcon softball team lost a 1-0 decision to Luther College on Saturday at the NCAA Tournament in Pella, Iowa.
The Falcons, now 32-14, will play Coe College at noon on Sunday in an elimination game. The Falcons beat Coe,
2-0, in a game played earlier in the day.
Luther 1, River Falls 0
This was another pitchers' dual as both teams finished with just three hits. Luther scored the only run of the game in the first inning.
The Falcons loaded the bases in the first but failed to score. With one out
Amanda Ryder doulbed to left center.
Abbie Morris and
Ashley Goettl both walked. But the next two Falcons struck out to end the inning.
The Luther leadoff batter walked and she was sacrificed to second in the first. The next batter singled to left and the runner scored the game's only run.
The Falcons got a runner as far as third in the third, but failed to score.
Hayley Buchanan led off with a double to right and Ryder sacrificed her to third. After a second out Goettl walked to put runners on first and third. But the Luther pitcher got the third out on an infield pop up.
UWRF also got a runner as far as third in the sixth, but again could not get the tying run. With out one, Goettl singled down the left field line and
Nicole Lubahn pinch ran. Amber O'Connell sacrificed Lubahn to second and she went to third on a wild pitch. But the Luther pitcher got the third out on a foul out.
Rose Tusa pitched another strong game for the Falcons but took the loss. She pitched all six innings and allowed the three hitsand one earned run. She struck out two and walked three. She is now 25-7.
