Football Falls 49-7 to Platteville

The UW-River Falls fell 49-7 to the No. 6 ranked UW-Platteville Pioneers this afternoon at Ramer Field.

UWP scored on their possession of the game in less than four minutes of game time in eight plays for 70 yards. The Pioneers would never look back. After a Falcons fumble UWP would score again in just three plays to take a 14-0 lead early in the first quarter.

The next two UWP drives would stall at the Falcons nine yard line. One on a failed fake field goal attempt and another that was one yard short when the Pioneers went for it on fourth down.

Nick Zimmerman led the way defensively with nine tackles and five pass breakups in the game for UWRF. Tyler Ledbeter also had nine tackles in the game.

UWP scored another two touchdowns in the second quarter. The Falcons marched down the field in the third quarter and put up points off of a strong running game. A one yard play action pass from Ryan Kusilek to Jordan Christianson was the lone Falcon touchdown.

Offensively Kywon Cartwright led the way with nine carries for 72 yards in the game. Jesse McKune had 11 carries for 49 yards. Kusilek had fourteen carries for 40 yards. Kusilek also went 15-27 for 104 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions.

After the touchdown UWRF attempted an onside kick that was recovered by UWP. After that the game was UWP as they went on to win 49-7 and move to 5-0 on the season. UWRF falls to 0-5 on the season.

UWRF will play again next Saturday at home against UW-Oshkosh with kickoff set for 2 p.m.
