Women's Basketball Falls at UW-Platteville

Pioneers Take 84-67 WIAC Win

The UWRF women's basketball team came up short in the second conference game of the season at UW-Platteville, 84-67, Saturday night.

UWRF took the early lead in the game when Kate Theisen made two free throws. UWP responded with a layup to tie up the game 2-2, with 19:07 left to play. The two teams switched up who held the lead throughout the first half, and tied the score four different times. UWP was able to take the lead, and held it at the half 36-25.

In the second half UWP took control and held the lead for the rest of the game. They were able to hold an 8-21 point lead throughout the half.

Hailey Siegle led the Falcons in scoring with 17 points, a career high. Hannah Pignato also had a career high, with 13 points. Tess Lueders, who scored 11 points and had two blocks, led UWRF with nine rebounds and Richell Mehus, who scored seven points and led the team with four assists, had six rebounds. The Falcons shot 22-66 (.333) from the field and 10-33 (.303) outside the 3-point line. They also went 13-19 (.684) from the line.

Alyssa Krajco led UWP in scoring with 28 points. Stacy Clark also put up double digit points with 18.

The Falcons, now 1-6 overall and 1-1 in the WIAC, return to the court Wednesday at UW-Stout starting at 7 p.m.
