Box Score Hailey Siegle had a game high 18 points tonight in a 58-48 loss to UW-Superior for UW-River Falls.
Siegle went 7-15 from the field and hit four out of eight three point attempts to go along with two rebounds tonight. She has a team high 27 made three pointers this season.
The game was a fast paced physical game throughout with both teams putting the press defense on back and forth. Ten minutes into the game the score was only 8-5 in UWS favor. Late in the half both teams picked it up offensively.
Up by six UWS attempted to hold onto the ball with 23 seconds left in the half for the last shot but got it stolen away by UWRF with time winding down. A
Katie Messman pass attempted for
Tess Lueders got tipped but Lueders got control and hit a buzzer beater lay up to pull UWRF within four going into half down 28-24 to UWS.
UWS got out to a strong start in the second half led by Sally Linzmeier who finished the game with 14 points and 11 rebounds for a double-double. UWRF got into foul trouble early in the half putting UWS on the line early and often. They hit 22-27 from the charity stripe including eight made by Linzmeier and went up by as much as 14 points with just over ten minutes left in the game.
UWRF made a couple attempts at making the game close again in the second half after big threes by
Mikaela Wilson and Siegle but never got closer than six.
The Falcons struggled from the field in the game going 15-52 but did go 12-16 from the free throw line led by Lueders who went 6-8 from the line and finished with 12 points.
UWS out rebounded UWRF 44-35 but had had 17 turnovers compared to 15 for UWRF.
UWRF falls to 4-12 overall on the season and 3-5 in the WIAC. They have now played every WIAC opponent once and will play UW-Whitewater for the second time Saturday at Whitewater with tip off set for 3 p.m. Whitewater won the first matchup 73-62 over UWRF.
