Women's Basketball Loses 96-50 at Whitewater

Box Score

The UW-River Falls Falcons had a rough night losing 96-50 to UW-Whitewater who will remain undefeated in WIAC play.

UWRF was without second leading scorer and rebounder Richell Mehus this evening and UWW's offensive attack was too much to handle all evening.

Just about one minute into the game Kate Theisen scored a layup for the first score of the game. The 2-0 lead would be the only time UWRF led all game.

UWRF competed with UWW for most of the first half and were only down 18-17 with 8:46 left in the half. A big part was due to two Hailey Siegle three pointers. Siegle finished the game with nine points all from three pointers on 3-6 shooting. She also added a team high five rebounds and two assists.

The rest of the half UWRF went on a big scoring drought and would only score three more points. UWW went on a tear led by Kaitlyn Thill who finished with 18 points and three assists and Kristen Ruchti who came off the bench to score 13 points and went a perfect 5-5 from the free throw line. UWW led 50-20 after the first half.

One of the big storylines of the game was that UWW got to the line 41 times in the game making 33 of them.

Tess Lueders led the Falcons in scoring with 10 points. Katie Messman knocked down two three pointers for six points in the game. UWRF went 17-46 from the field including going 7-14 from behind the arc and went 9-17 from the line. UWRF out rebounded UWW 29-19 in the game.

The loss drops UWRF to 4-13 overall on the season and 3-6 in the WIAC. They will play next at home against UW-Stout Wednesday evening with tip off set for 3 p.m. When the two teams met earlier this season the Falcons won 67-52 at Stout.
