Box Score The UWRF women's basketball team fell to the 9-3 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Warhawks, 73-62, on Saturday afternoon at the Karges Center.
Falcons sophomore guard
Richell Mehus led all scorers with 25 points, a career high. Late in the second half, as the Falcons attempted to rally from a 15 point deficit, Mehus scored 11 straight points for her team. She finished the evening 10-13 from the field, including 4-6 from beyond the arc. She also contributed four rebounds and two assists.
Falcons freshman forward
Kate Theisen and freshman guard
Mikaela Wilson both scored 10 points, which are career highs. Theisen finished 4-4 from the field and 2-2 at the line, while nabbing four rebounds. Wilson also contributed four rebounds, while hitting 2 of 4 from three point land.
Falcons senior forward
Tess Lueders was in foul trouble all evening but still finished with a game-high five rebounds for UWRF; she also finished 3-3 from the field. Meanwhile, junior guard
Kristi Elles led the Falcons with four assists.
UWRF had turnover issues all afternoon, which was the difference in the ballgame. The Falcons committed 24 turnovers to the Warhawks' 12. Whitewater's full court press was certainly a major factor for the turnover disparity. The Warhawks finished the evening with 24 points off turnovers; UWRF managed just six points. The loss is a tough one to swallow for UWRF as they shot 54.3 percent from the field, more than eight points better than Whitewater.
Falcons junior forward
Hailey Siegle scored seven first half points, but was held off the scoreboard in the second.
Whitewater led practically the entire ballgame as UWRF's lone lead was 2-0.
UWRF only trailed by three points at halftime (31-28), but 18 offensive rebounds aided the Warhawks' final effort.
Whitewater was led by senior guard Kaitlyn Thill, who scored 19 points on 7-10 shooting. 11 of her 19 points came in the first half.
UWRF fell to 3-9 on the season, 2-2 in WIAC play and 1-4 at home. Whitewater is now 9-3 overall and 3-0 in the WIAC.
The Falcons' next contest is against conference rival UW-Eau Claire on Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. at the Karges Center.
