Women's Basketball Drops WIAC Game at UWSP

The Falcon women's basketball team dropped a 71-39 WIAC game at UW-Stevens Point on Saturday afternoon.

UWRF got off to a slow start scoring just five points in the first seven minutes of the game. Hailey Siegle hit a lay up with 17:26 to go in the first half to tie the game, 5-5. But UWSP then went on a 9-0 run to take a 14-5 lead with 12:44 to play. UWSP held a 36-13 lead at the half. In the first half the Falcons were cold from the field shooting 4-26 (.154).

The Falcons got to within 57-36 in the second half when Kate Theisen hit a three-pointer with 8:26 to play. 

For the game, UWRF shot just 22 percent from the field, going 12-54. They were 5-21 (.238) from behind the arc and 10-16 (.625) from the line. 

Hannah Pignato led UWRF with 11 points and a season-high three steals. She also had four rebounds and an assist coming off the bench.Theisen finished with eight points and she had three rebounds. Seigle and Katie Messman each scored seven points and Messman had two steals.

The Falcons, now 6-17 overall and 4-10 in WIAC play, will next host UW-Superior in another WIAC contest. The game will be played on Wednesday at the Karges Center with action starting at 7 p.m.
