Women's Basketball Loses in Season Finale - Video Added

UWP Takes 72-69 Win at Karges Center

The Falcon women's basketball team lost a 72-69 WIAC game to UW-Platteville, the No. 5 team in the conference, Saturday afternoon at the Karges Center.

UWP took the lead, and were able to keep it until there was about 15 minutes left to play in the first half when Cassy Saxton tied the game with two free throws, 8-8. Both teams switched off taking the lead throughout the rest of the half.  With 4:21 to play UWP held a 29-23 lead, but the Falcons went on a 7-0 run to take a 30-29 lead with 2:59 to play. UWP was ahead by three, 34-31, with 40 seconds to play. But the Falcons ended the half strong to take a 36-34 lead into the locker room at halftime. Kate Theisen hit a three with 23 seconds to play and Hailey Siegle scored on a lay up with four seconds to go. The game was tied five times in the first half and there were seven lead changes.

In the second half there were five lead changes and the game was tied six times. With 2:49 to play the score was tied,l 59-59, when Hannah Pignato made three free throws. But UWP held the lead the lead the rest of the game. UWP's Rachel Cropp hit a three with 1:37 led to put her team ahead by seven, 66-59.

Theisen led the Falcons in scoring with 16 points, to equal her career-high. Theisen also led the team in steals (2) and rebounds (7). Pignato and Siegle each added eight points.

Overall from the field the Falcons went 22-62 (.355), and from behind the arc they were 7-31 (.226). For free throws they shot 18-26 (.692).

Alyssa Krajco led UWP in scoring with 27 points. Cropp and Stacy Clark also scored in the double digits with 16 points each.

The Falcons end their season with a 6-19 overall record and they finished 4-12 in WIAC play.
