Box Score 2 The UW-River Falls Falcons opened up their season with two losses at the Viking Classic to Hamline University and Cornell College.
First Game: Hamline 3, UWRF 0The Falcons dropped their first match of the season to Hamline University falling in three sets. Hamline took the first set 25-20, won the second 25-19 and finished off with a 25-18 victory in the final match.
In the first set UWRF had 47 total attacks out of their 107 in three combined sets. They slowed down in the second with 23 and recorded 29 in the third set.
Lisa Keppers and
Hali Tasler both recorded six kills on the attack out of the 27 total kills the Falcons recorded in the three sets.
Raven Klein recorded 25 assists. Â
UWRF had five players with double digits on digs. Tasler and
Lexi Pingel each recorded 13, Kline and
Kadie Brooks had 12 each and
Brianna Muetzel had 11 digs. The Falcons had 63 total digs in the match and also recorded seven total team blocks.
Second Game: Cornell 3, UWRF 1Despite winning a close third set the Falcons fell 3-1 against Cornell College.
Pingel had a strong game with 37 digs in the match with Muetzel recording 22 digs and Tasler, Brooks and Keppers all in double digits in digs as well.
On the attack only
Katie Duff had double digits in kills with 10 in the four sets. Klein had 43 assists in the match.
The Falcons fall to 0-2 to start the season but have two more games at the Viking Classic tomorrow afternoon. They will play the host of the tournament Augustana College at 10 a.m. and Benedictine University at 2 p.m. to end the tournament.
