Track Teams Compete at the Phil Esten Challenge

La Crosse, Wis. (uwrfsports.com) The UW-River Falls track teams competed in the Phil Esten Challenge at UW-La Crosse this weekend. The Falcons had numerous top ten finished on both the men's and women's teams. Justin Barnes finished second in the javelin throw with a throw of 47.07 meters. The Women's distance runners had a great day with Linsey Tolkkinen finishing 4th in the 10,000 meter run and Nikki Jurik and Emliy Klatt finishing in the top 5 of the 3,000 meter steeplechase, 3rd and 5th respectively.

Women's Highlights:
  • Tolkkinen finished 4th in the 10,000 meter run with a time of 36:54.28 and scored 5 points for the Falcons.
  • Jurik and Klatt finished just seconds apart with times of 11:38.18 and 11:39.47 good enough for 3rd and 5th place in the 3,000 meter steeplechase and combined scored 10 points for the Falcons.
  • Freshman Haley Macklem finished 8th in the high jump iwth a jump of 1.53 meters adding 1 point for the Falcons.
  • Sophomore Abigail Bakken finished 6th in the hammer throw with a throw of 46.97 meters, scoring 3 points for the Falcons. 
Men's Highlights:
  • Kyle Dorosz finished 6th in the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.46 seconds and scored 3 points for the Falcons.
  • Justin Barnes finished 2nd in the Javelin, scoring 8 points for the Falcons.
  • Riley Jacobson had a strong showing in the Decathlon finishing just outside the top 10 at 11th scoring 389 points.
  • The Falcons landed a couple top 10 finishes in the triple jump with freshman Dominique Turner finishing 7th with a jump of 12.70 meters scoring 2 points for the Falcons and junior Tim Rixman finishing 8th with a jump of 12.60 meters scoring 1 point for the Falcons.
Looking Ahead:
The track teams will be back in action on Saturday April 28th, when they travel to Winona to compete at St. Mary's before returning home to host the WIAC Outdoor Championship meet at Ramer Field on May 4th and 5th.
