Women's Hockey wins 4-0 in season opener

LAKE FOREST, Ill. – The UW-River Falls women's hockey team opened its 2021-22 schedule with a 4-0 win at Lake Forest College Saturday evening.

Junior forward Maddie McCollins scored two goals while Sami Miller tallied 21 saves for the shutout.

UWRF out-shot Lake Forest 49-21. Each team was unsuccessful on the power play, with the Falcons going 0-for-5 and the Foresters 0-for-3.

Sophia Leong scored the first Falcon goal of the season late in the first period, assisted by McCollins - who accumulated a three-point night.

The Falcons scored three goals in the middle frame, with two from McCollins, along with freshman Emma Schmitz first collegiate goal.

Alyson Niebur, Holly Eckers, Abigail Stow, and Allisen Carothers collected assists in the second period.

Neither team scored in the third stanza despite a combined five power play opportunities.

UWRF goes for the series sweep tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m.
