LAKE FOREST, Ill. – The UW-River Falls women's hockey team defeated Lake Forest College 5-1 on Sunday afternoon, earning the non-conference series sweep.
The Falcons, now 2-0 overall, defeated the Foresters 4-1 last night in the season opener. Today, UWRF scored once on the power play along with two shorthanded goals.
Senior captains
Callie Hoff (2g-1a) and
Abigail Stow (1g-1a) led the offense while goaltender
Jordan O'Connor earned the win in net, making 16 saves.
After a scoreless first 20 minutes, Hoff opened the game's scoring on the man advantage just over six minutes into the middle frame, assisted by Stow and
Holly Eckers. The Falcons then went on to score three more goals in the second period to take a 4-1 lead into the third.
Hoff scored again at 9:52 along with an
Erin Olson unassisted goal a few minutes later. Despite Lake Forest scoring its first goal of the weekend at 14:08, UWRF bounced back just a minute late with Stow's first goal of the year.
Alex Hantge with help from Hoff, scoring shorthanded in the third period to give the Falcons a four-goal cushion.
UWRF out-shot Lake Forest 48-17, one shot shy of its total from Friday night.
The Falcons continue non-conference action next week with road games at Augsburg and Saint Mary's.
