Hoff's two goals leads No. 4 Falcons past Pointers

RIVER FALLS, Wis. – The No. 4-ranked UW-River Falls women's hockey team defeated UW-Stevens Point 3-2 Saturday afternoon at Hunt Arena.

UWRF improves to 13-1 overall and 3-1 during WIAC play with its sixth consecutive win.

The Falcons outshot the Pointers 36-20 and earned a 3-0 lead before UWSP made a comeback push in the third period.

Callie Hoff scored the first of her two goals on the day late in the first period, finishing off a rush with help from Hadley Malcolmson and Braelyn Sathers, giving UWRF a 1-0 lead heading into the middle frame.

Ellie Brice scored unassisted in the second period, throwing a puck at the crease from behind the net that went off Pointer netminder Olivia Schultz' paddle and into the goal.

Hoff's second of the game and team-leading 11th of the season was one of three third period goals, scored shorthanded at 4:31 of the third period, assisted again by Sathers. Hoff evaded a Pointer defender and scored five-hole to put the Falcons up 3-0 before UWSP rallied.

UWSP scored one of its sixth power play chances on the game at 9:41, and then scored late at 17:27 to come within one goal, but UWRF held on for the win.

Maddie McCollins led the Falcons with six shots on goal, while goaltender Jordan O'Connor earned the win in net with 18 saves, improving her record to 4-0.

The Falcons and Pointers play again tomorrow at 4:05 p.m. from Hunt Arena, a non-conference game. Per WIAC/COVID protocols, Friday's originally scheduled conference game was canceled.
