No. 4-ranked Falcons sweep Pointers

RIVER FALLS, Wis. – The No. 4-ranked UW-River Falls women's hockey team shutout UW-Stevens Point 5-0 Sunday afternoon at Hunt Arena.

UWRF improves to 14-1 overall with its seventh-straight win while earning a weekend sweep over the Pointers. The win will not count towards WIAC standings, and was rescheduled after the originally scheduled Friday, Jan. 14 conference game was canceled due to WIAC/COVID-19 protocols.

The Falcons were led by a pair of two-goal performances from Callie Hoff and Maddie McCollins, while defenseman Sophia Leong tallied three assists. Goaltender Pistol Cowden logged 13 saves and picker up her third shutout of the season.

UWRF outshot UWSP 51-13 and were dominant on faceoffs, winning 50 of 77.

After Hoff and McCollins scored in the first two periods, the Falcons put the game away in the third, scoring three to reach the five-goal mark for the 10th time this season.

McCollins scored her second of the game on the power play, followed by an Ellie Brice tip-in goal and Hoff's second of the game. With her third consecutive two-goal game of the season, Hoff reached 84 career goals to tie the UW-River Falls women's hockey all-time goal-scoring record, tying her former teammate Carly Moran (2014-18).

UW-River Falls has a home/home WIAC series with UW-Superior next week.
