RIVER FALLS, Wis. – The No. 5-ranked UW-River Falls women's hockey team defeated Concordia College 5-2 Saturday afternoon at Hunt Arena.
After a 4-3 win last night, UWRF won fifth-straight to improve to 12-1 overall and earn the weekend sweep over the Cobbers.
The Falcons were led by five different scorers, outshooting Concordia 49-12.
Pistol Cowden made her third start of the season and tallied 10 saves to improve to 3-0 on the season.
It took UWRF just 10 minutes into the game to take a 3-0 lead, opening the scoring with an
Alex Hantge power play goal.
Maddie McCollins and Allisen Caruthers put the Falcons up by three before the Cobbers scored to cut the lead to 3-1 after one period.
Similar to game one of the series on Friday night, the Cobbers fought back into the game after drawing Falcons penalties. Concordia opened the second period scoring on the power play and held UWRF scoreless, heading into the final 20 minutes down 3-2.
In the third, UWRF limited the Cobbers to five shots on goal while scoring twice to put the game out of reach. At 9:32 of the third,
Ellie Brice buried a rebound goal and
Hadley Malcolmson scored her second goal of the weekend late to put the Falcons up 5-2.
Reilly Springman tallied a season-high eight shots on goal, followed by five shots on goal each from Hantge,
Abigail Stow, and
Bailey Olson.
UW-River Falls has another non-conference game at the College of St. Scholastica on Tuesday, Jan. 11 in Duluth, Minn.
