RIVER FALLS, Wis. – The UW-River Falls men's basketball team opened WIAC play Wednesday evening at Page Arena with a 71-53 loss versus UW-Eau Claire.
UWRF drops to 3-3 overall and 0-1 in the WIAC while UWEC improves to 5-2 overall and 1-0 during conference action.
The Blugolds opened the game on fire, making 11 consecutive field goals including an 8-for-8 mark from beyond the arc to open the game, claiming a 32-17 lead before their first miss.
UWRF battled back, outscoring the Blugolds 15-10 in the back-end of the first half, trimming the UWEC lead to 40-32 at halftime. The Falcons shot over 50 percent from the field in the first half and 6-of-9 from beyond the arc, including four from
Mason Anderson.
The visitors maintained their lead for the rest of the game as UWRF's shooting declined in the second half.
UWRF led 30-26 in the paint, led by 18 points from
Rodrick Payne while the Blugolds finished the night 13-of-24 from three-point range.
The Falcons remain at home this Saturday, hosting UW-Whitewater.
