RIVER FALLS, Wis. – The No. 4-ranked UW-River Falls women's hockey team shut out UW-Superior with a 6-0 win for the second consecutive game, advancing to the WIAC O'Brien Cup Championship game.
UWRF improves to 25-1 overall with its third-straight shutout and 18th consecutive win. The WIAC's top-seeded Falcons will host No. 2 seed UW-Eau Claire on Saturday, March 5 at Hunt Arena for the conference tournament final. Game time is to be announced.
The Falcons duplicated Saturday's output with another six-goal victory, sweeping the WIAC Tournament Semifinals against the Yellowjackets.
UWRF out shot UWS 45-21 and had six different goal scorers, including a power play goal from
Abigail Stow and a two-assist effort from
Callie Hoff.
Maddie McCollins scored just over a minute into the game, burying a centering pass from
Sophia Leong for the eventual game-winner.
Erin Olson scored later in the period to give the home team a 2-0 lead heading into the first intermission.
Superior held the Falcons to just one goal in the middle frame, an
Aubrey Nelvin one-timer off a pass from
Allisen Carothers. UWRF then broke open in the third, with goals from
Kora Torkelson, Stown, and
Reilly Springman.
Sami Miller logged 21 saves en route to her third-straight shutout and seventh of the season.
The Falcons held a 33-27 edge in faceoffs, led by 12 wins from
Alex Hantge.
