SUPERIOR, Wis. - The UW-River Falls men's hockey team won 4-3 Saturday evening at UW-Superior to earn a WIAC series weekend sweep over the Yellowjackets.
UWRF duplicated its Friday night outcome with the 4-3 win, also winning by the same score last night at Hunt Arena with a hat-trick by
Noah Ganske. With the win and weekend sweep, the Falcons improve to 13-9-1 overall and 9-4 in the WIAC.
Four different Falcons found the back of the net, including a power play tally from
Vilho Saariluoma. UW-Superior held a 28-17 edge on shots on goal, and
Dysen Skinner logged 25 saves en route to earning the win to improve his record to 10-6 on the season.
The Falcons took a two-goal lead with a pair of goals within two minutes of each other in the first period.
Cayden Cahill sniped home his sixth of the season off a faceoff, followed by
Gibb Coady scoring on a two-on-one pass from
Jack Kilroy.
Superior answered late in the period to cut the Falcon lead to 2-1 heading into the first intermission.
UWRF again scored twice in the middle frame, with one answer from Superior, taking a 4-2 lead into the final 20 minutes. Saariluoma scored on the man advantage with help from
Alex Davis at 8:18, and
Valentino Passarelli scored at 16:09, the eventual game-winner.
The Yellowjackets cut the UWRF lead to one at 15:43 of the third period and pulled their goaltender in an attempt to tie the game, but were assessed a major penalty moments later, negating their comeback effort.
The Falcons wrap up the regular season schedule next weekend with a WIAC road series at UW-Eau Claire.
