PLATTEVILLE, Wis. - The UW-River Falls volleyball fell in three sets at UW-Platteville Friday evening.
The loss snapped the Falcons' six-game winning streak, as the Pioneers, who received votes in the latest AVCA National Coaches' Poll, swept the Falcons 25-19, 25-15, 25-22.
UWRF was limited to a .123 hitting percentage while the Pioneers attacked at a rate of 25.7 percent.
UW-Platteville had its strongest set in the first frame, hitting .324, then causing 11 Falcon errors in the middle frame to earn a 2-0 lead.
Down 2-0, the Falcons made it interesting in the third set, forcing a pair of lead changes before the two teams went back and forth. UWRF led early on 8-5 before the home team took back a pair of five-point leads. The Falcons cut the Pioneer lead to one several times, including 21-20 and 23-22 late, but UWP closed out set and match with a pair of back-to-back kills for the victory.
Sami Hilley led the Falcons with 10 kills and a .400 hitting percentage.
Olivia Gustafsson set up the attack with 17 assists while Kamer Meredith led the defense with 11 digs.
UWRF (14-5, 1-2 WIAC) remains in Platteville tomorrow to face Carthage and Millikin.
