The Playoff Patch Part 1

It's full steam ahead for playoffs as every UWRF Esport roster prepares for their NACE and NECC playoffs before Thanksgiving. After a strong final week of the regular season in which the Falcons went 11-5 across all teams, including a playoff-qualifying win against Stockton University for UWRF Valorant, all 7 rosters qualified for playoffs in at least 1 league with 6 qualifying in 2 or more.

Valorant and Rocket League showed new signs of life in their final week as they pushed for playoff qualification. Against Stockton, Valorant team captain Jeremy "Po1ar" Myers sealed the deal with a 57/24/15 kill-death-assist performance in their sweep. Rocket League avoided a 4-way tie for 3rd in their NECC division by taking a 3-2 win over Oklahoma University for sole possession of 2nd place. They then followed that up with another victory over a Division I rival by taking down UW-Madison 3-1 in WCRL action. They close out their WCRL regular season this week on Thursday against UW-Platteville. A win qualifies them for the in-person championship bracket on December 3rd at Best Buy in Wauwatosa, WI.

For League of Legends and Rainbow 6, playoffs started early. UWRF League of Legends took on East Central University last Tuesday. Starting off the series with a commanding win, the Falcons faltered in Game 2 when ECU banned UWRF's Renekton-Taliyah combo that has gone undefeated this season. In the series-deciding Game 3, the Falcons, stuck to their gameplan with 7 out of 10 picks remaining the same. However, the execution differed drastically as they quickly closed out the series in less than 25 minutes. Unfortunately, UWRF R6 could not pull off a similar run as they closed out their MidwestR6 season on a Round 1 0-2 loss to Ohio State University. Seniors Jaxon "JDHAF3N" Hafenbreadl and Ryan "Weecon" Colegrove led the team throughout the season with a cumulative 1.02 and 1.97 overall kill-death ratio.

Over the weekend, UWRF Smash competed at the 19th annual and 23rd overall Show Me Your Moves tournament at University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. 5 out of 7 Falcons advanced out of pools with Riley "Nanukka" Bresette being the first UWRF Smash Ultimate player to make Top 32 at a tournament this year. Top performers for the day were Anthony "Preeminent" Braun with a 3rd place finish in Melee Doubles and 9th place in Melee Singles, and Ben Strandmark in 5th in Melee Singles, his 4th Top 8 finish of the semester. Next weekend, the Melee Falcons will compete in the 16th Minnesota Monthly, and next month, the Falcons will fly to Alabama for their final tournament of the semester.
