WINONA, Minn. - The UW-River Falls men's basketball team fell 76-73 at Saint Mary's University Saturday afternoon.
The Cardinals led for the majority of the game until the Falcons made a run to tie the game at 64-64 with under seven minutes left in regulation. UWRF then took its first lead of the game minutes later with a
Zac Johnson triple. Johnson added another basket next possession to put the Falcons up 71-66, but SMU closed out the game on a 10-2 run to seal the win.
UWRF made a season-high 29 field goals and 12 three-pointers, shooting 44.6 percent from the field and 40 percent from three-point range.
Zac Johnson led the Falcons with 22 points, nine rebounds, and four assists. In addition,
Marshall Holland tallied 12 points, followed by 11 from
Logan Jedwabny.
SMU led for all of the first half while both teams shot nearly 50 percent from the field, combining for 13 three-pointers. The Falcons trailed by as many as 12 in the first half and were down 41-36 at the half. UWRF outscored SMU 37-35 in the second half, which proved to be not enough however.
UWRF led 39-26 in rebounds and 32-20 in the paint.
The Falcons, now 1-3 overall, return to Page Arena to host the University of Northwestern next Tuesday.
