ST. CLOUD, Minn. - The No. 4-ranked UW-River Falls women's hockey team earned a 5-0 shutout at the College of Saint Benedict Thursday evening.
The Falcons, now 3-0 overall, were led by a pair of goals from
Megan Goodreau and 20 saves from goaltender
Jordan O'Connor en route to the shutout win, UWRF's first of the season.
UWRF scored five goals, including four in the third period while maintaining a 38-20 lead in shots on goal.
After outshooting the Bennies 12-5 in the first 20 minutes, a rebound goal from Goodreau, here first of two on the night to put the Falcons up 1-0 at 11:43 of the first frame, which stood as the eventual game-winner.
The Falcons and Bennies went scoreless in the middle stanza before the UWRF offense broke open with four goals in the final 20 minutes from
Allisen Carothers, Goodreau,
Alex Hantge, and
MaKenna Aure.Â
Maddie McCollins led the Falcons with two assists, and went 17-8 in faceoffs.
O'Connor's 20 saves was good for her first shutout of the season and the seventh of her career.
UWRF hosts Saint Mary's University on Saturday evening at Hunt Arena.
