RIVER FALLS, Wis. – The UW-River Falls men's basketball team earned a 63-47 win over UW-Stout Wednesday evening at Page Arena.
Rodrick Payne tallied his second double-double of the season to lead the Falcons, totaling a career-high 13 rebounds and 16 points. With the win, UWRF improves to 10-11 overall and 4-6 during WIAC action.
While the Falcons shot under 40 percent from the field, they held the Blue Devils to 34.7% percent field goal numbers and out-rebounded the visitors 44-26. In addition, UWRF forced 20 Blue Devil turnovers, converting those into 22 points.
UWRF gained a nine-point lead just over six minutes in with a Payne layup putting the Falcons up 13-4, and the home team carried an 11-point advantage into the break.
The Blue Devils made things interesting near the midway point of the second half as a Preston Briggs three-pointer cut the Falcon lead to 40-35, but that was the closest Stout came to breaking the Falcon lead. UWRF answered with an 8-0 run capped off by a
Mason Anderson triple to put Falcons up by 13, enough room for the win.
Behind Payne's double-double,
Logan Jedwabny added 14 and
Jack Leifker totaled 10 off the bench.
The Falcons host No. 23-ranked UW-Oshkosh on Saturday at Page Arena.
