LeFever collects All-America accolade in the pentathlon

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The UW-River Falls women's track & field team was represented by Lexi LeFever and Annika Gunderson on Friday, March 10 at the NCAA Indoor Championships at The Birmingham CrossPlex.

LeFever finished seventh of 20 athletes in the women's pentathlon to earn her fourth career All-American award, the second of her indoor career and first in the event.

She totaled 3,465 points for a career-best in the event, the second-highest pentathlon point total in UWRF history, trailing only former Falcon great Jill Crandall, who tallied 3,474 points at the 2007 WIAC Championships.

LeFever opened the day with a strong time of 9.10 in the 60-meter hurdles, the first of five events in the pentathlon to collect 889 points. She followed with a 5'1'' high jump, 32'9'' shot put, 17'3.25'' long jump, and capped off the day with a seventh place finish in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:26.37 to secure a top-eight All-American finish.

Annika Gunderson, who broke the UWRF women's indoor pole vault record twice earlier this year, no-heighted at the Championships Friday.

Yaih Marial, the WIAC Men's Indoor Track & Field Newcomer of the Year, represents the UWRF men tomorrow in the high jump.
