RIVER FALLS, Wis. - The UW-River Falls men's basketball team won on a
Noah Hanson buzzer-beating three-pointer to defeat defending WIAC regular season champion UW-Oshkosh 79-76 Saturday evening at Page Arena.
The win marked UWRF's first win over the Titans since 2017 when the Falcons defeated UWO in the WIAC Tournament title game.
Upon a Falcon timeout with just two seconds left in regulation with the score knotted at 76-76,
Noah Hanson received an inbound pass from
Marshall Holland and stepped back to sink the game-winning buzzer-beater.
UWRF and UWO exchanged the lead eight times throughout the night while the Falcons shot nearly 50 percent from the field along with a strong 11-of-23 mark from beyond the arc. The Falcons also held a 38-34 edge in rebounds.
Zac Johnson shot 6-of-15 from the field with four made triples for a team-high 21 points and four assists, trailed by 19 points and a team-high seven rebounds from
Jack Leifker.
In the first half, UWO led 41-34 and led by as many as 11 with just over two minutes left in the half. Trailing by seven heading into the second half, UWRF opened the second half with back-to-back triples by Johnson along with a jumper from Leifker to claim a 42-41 lead. From then on, the Falcons and Titans swapped four leads in the next few minutes until a
Logan Jedwabny three-pointer gave UWRF a six-point cushion at 55-49 with 13:11 left.
In the final 13 minutes, the Falcons didn't concede a lead and held on to the end, leading to Hanson's heroics.
The Falcons, now 9-6 overall and 3-1 in the WIAC, hits the road next Wednesday to face UW-Stevens Point.
