No. 1 Falcons sweep Pointers

RIVER FALLS, Wis. - The No. 1-ranked UW-River Falls women's hockey team defeated UW-Stevens Point 6-2 Saturday afternoon at Hunt Arena to earn the WIAC series sweep and improve its program-record win streak to 17 games.

UWRF claimed a 3-0 lead early in the second period before the Pointers stormed back with back-to-back goals, trimming the Falcon lead to 3-2 near the midway point of the game. Under a minute later however, an Allisen Carothers slapshot from the point gave UWRF a 4-2 lead and the home team scored a couple more unanswered to earn the four-goal margin of victory.

Maddie McCollins finished with four points off two goals and two assists while Megan Goodreau had a goal and two assists. Jordan O'Kane made the start in net and notched 11 saves to improve her record to 4-0 on the season.

UWRF led 65-13 in shots on goal and went 2-for-5 on the power play.

The Falcons, now 17-0 overall and 5-0 during WIAC play, have a home & home series against UW-Superior next week, Jan. 18-20.
