Falcons defeat Eagles on the road, Hanson reaches 1,000 career points

LA CROSSE, Wis. - The UW-River Falls men's basketball team earned a 68-64 win at UW-La Crosse Wednesday evening.

The Falcons, now 12-8 overall and 6-3 during conference play, sweep the season series against the Eagles, following up a 71-62 win over UWL during the WIAC opener on Jan. 3.

Both teams were held to under 40 percent shooting from the field while UWRF went 8-of-24 from beyond the arc and were solid at free throw line, making a season-best percentage at .941 (16-of-17).

Zac Johnson led the Falcons with 22 points, trailed by nine points from Noah Hanson as he reached 1,000 points in his career. Hanson also had a team-high four assists, while Micah Thompson had a team-high seven rebounds. Jack Leifker went 6-for-6 at the charity stripe despite being held to under double digit scoring totals.

In the first half, the Falcons were hot from long range, making seven of 13 three-pointers. UWRF led by as many as eight on three occasions, and led for the majority of the opening 20 minutes to lead 42-40 at halftime.

UWL earned back a lead early in the second half and held on to it until a Logan Jedwabny triple with 4:43 left in regulation gave UWRF a 64-61 advantage, while eventually led to the win as the Falcons hung on down the stretch. Johnson and Hanson made free throws with seconds remaining sealed the victory.

The Falcons host No. 14-ranked UW-Platteville this Saturday at Page Arena.
