Falcons sweep Cobbers, set program record win streak

RIVER FALLS, Wis. - The No. 1-ranked UW-River Falls women's hockey team defeated Concordia College 7-0 Saturday afternoon at Page Arena to earn a weekend sweep over the Cobbers.

With the win, the Falcons improve to 14-0 overall to break a program-record win streak and the strongest start to a season in UWRF history. The 2010-11 Falcons opened its season with a 13-0 record.

UWRF outshot the Cobbers 37-12 and were paced by a pair of goals by Bailey Olson. In addition, Kenzie Dunn and Kailey Niccum scored their first goals of the season while freshman goaltender Anna Rader made her collegiate debut in net and tallied 12 saves to collect her first career win and shutout.

Similar to last night, UWRF got off to a strong start, scoring a trio of goals in the first period, including the eventual game-winner at 5:34 of the first period from Madison Lavergne, who slammed home a pass from Alex Hantge on an odd-man rush. The Falcons then scored twice in both the second and third periods.

Four Falcons finished with two assists; Alex Hantge, Holly Eckers, Aubrey Nelvin, and Kennedi Bielenberg-Howarth.

UWRF (14-0, 3-0 WIAC) hosts St. Scholastica next Tuesday.
