CLERMONT, Fla. – The UW-River Falls softball team split its final day of competition at THE Spring Games on Saturday, defeating Westminster College 11-1 prior to being shut out against Luther College.

UWRF went 5-5 during its Florida trip and will return home with a 9-5 overall record. The Falcons are back in action on March 29 at Macalester College in St. Paul, Minn.

The Falcons opened the day taking care of the Bluejays in six innings, scoring 11 runs off 13 hits.

Emily Crowe, Hannah Effertz, Jewel Waupekenay, and Tessa Peterson all had multi-hit games, led by three hits from Effertz. Crowe also lasted the whole game in the pitcher's circle, throwing her first complete game of the season with five strikeouts.

Leading by five runs, UWRF did most of its damage in the sixth inning, scoring six runs off seven hits. Johanna Breyen and Crowe both had two-run singles.

Game two of the day and the final game of the spring break trip went differently than game one, as the Falcon bats were unable to produce while Norse starting pitcher Olivia Engler went the distance and limited UWRF to just four base hits.

After four scoreless innings, Luther scored the eventual game-winning runs in the fifth, scoring two runs off three hits. The Norse added one more run for good measure in the seventh.

Abby Pitts led the Falcons with two hits, while Maggie Wallin pitched a complete game, conceding nine hits with six strikeouts.
