MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - The UW-River Falls track & field team wrapped up the 2024 NCAA Outdoor Championships on Friday, May 24, highlighted by an All-American sixth place finish for
Lexi LeFever in the women's heptathlon.
Jacob Balcome and
Lexi LeFever each wrapped up the first of two days of their respective combined event competitions on Thursday. Balcome headed into day two of the decathlon in 13th place while LeFever sat in fifth place in the heptathlon.
On Friday, LeFever tallied 1,838 points in the long jump, javelin throw, and 800-meter run to finish in sixth place among 22 athletes with 4,871 points, earning her sixth career All-American accolade (third career outdoor). She becomes one of the most decorated UWRF Women's Track & Field athletes in program history, becoming just the second Falcon to compile six All-American finishes individually, matching UWRF Hall of Famer Sarah Peterson's total from 1998-99. Alyssa Rasmussen also was a six-time All-American, including a pair of relays.
LeFever's total of 4,871 points is a 2024 season-best, and third-most all-time at UWRF. She holds the program record of 5,024, set during the 2023 NCAA Outdoor Championships.
Balcome rounded out the decathlon on Friday with the 110-meter hurdles, discus throw, pole vault, javelin throw, and 1,500-meter run. He combined for 6,355 points (UWRF 3rd all-time) through two day to finished in 16th place.
On Thursday,
Annika Gunderson finished tied for 12th of 22 athletes in the women's pole vault, reaching 3.76 meters (12 feet, 4 inches).
