RIVER FALLS, Wis. - The UW-River Falls women's lacrosse team fell 12-11 during its season finale against UW-Eau Claire Saturday afternoon in the WIAC Tournament third-place game.
With the loss, the Falcons' overall record dips to 12-7 on the season.Â
Trailing 4-1 early in the second quarter, the Falcons scored seven in a row to take an 8-4 lead late in the first half. However, UWEC had a strong second half, outscoring the Falcons 8-3 in the final 30 minutes to earn the win.
Down by three goals late in regulation, UWRF scored twice late, including a
Samantha Hayek goal with 17 seconds left in the game to trim the Blugold lead to 12-11, but it was too little too late.
UWEC outshot UWRF 23-18 and led 13-10 in draw controls.
Hayek led the Falcons with five points off three goals and two assists.
Bailey O'Donovan also had three goals and had a team-high four draw controls.
Kayden Hersback made 11 saves in net.
