MOORHEAD, Minn. – The UW-River Falls men's basketball team couldn't overcome a fast start by Concordia College on Saturday afternoon, falling 78–64 inside Memorial Auditorium. The Cobbers shot 48 percent from the field and hit nine three-pointers while holding the lead for the entirety of the game.
Concordia came out strong from the perimeter, hitting four threes in the first half and used a 10–2 opening stretch to take control early. The Cobbers built their lead behind Jacob Cook, who scored 22 points before halftime on 8-of-10 shooting.
UWRF had steady scoring from
Jack Leifker,
Kyle Steinke, and
Reggie Postel, who combined for 17 first-half points and helped cut the margin to 23–20 midway through the period.
The Falcons generated a much sounder offensive push in the second half, led by
Brody Variano, who scored all 10 of his points after halftime and hit a three to spark the Falcons early in the half.
Gavin Ralph finished with eight points and a team-best five rebounds in the half.
Daniel Cleary delivered an efficient stretch off the bench with seven second-half points, while
Reid Tengblad scored six points on 3-of-5 shooting.
The Falcons trimmed the deficit several times, but Concordia countered each time to maintain its cushion. Cook finished with a game-high 32 points, and the Cobbers matched the Falcons in paint scoring while holding a 40–33 rebounding advantage.
