RIVER FALLS, Wis. – The UW-River Falls men's basketball team secured an 86-80 victory over St. Olaf Wednesday night at Don Page Arena, using a poised second-half effort and effective interior scoring to earn its second win of the season.
After a tight, back-and-forth opening half, that ended in a 35-35 tie, the Falcons broke things open after halftime by shooting 72.7 percent from the field (16-of-22) and consistently getting looks around the rim. UWRF outscored the Oles 52-44 in the paint and held a 38-26 edge on the glass controlling the tempo throughout the final stretch.
Jack Leifker and
Micah Thompson provided a steady stream of scoring inside, combining for 40 points. Thompson recorded his first double-double of season, bringing down 14 rebounds throughout the matchup. Bench production proved equally important, with 25 points coming from Daniel Cleay and Reid Tenglad. Cleary knocked down a pair of threes while
Reid Tengblad added finishes around the basket. Defensively, UWRF limited St. Olaf to 20.8 percent from three-point range (5-of-24) and held strong in the final minutes despite multiple Ole pushes.
