RIVER FALLS, Wis. – Despite a strong second-half and four Falcons scoring in double digits, UW-River Falls fell 81-88 Tuesday night at Don Page Arena against the Macalester Scots.
The Falcons outscored Macalester 48-46 after halftime and controlled the glass 44-32, including 17 offensive rebounds that produced 17 second chance scores, but the Scots countered with 12 made threes and a 49.2 percent shooting night.
Trailing 42-33 at halftime, the Falcons opened the second half with some energy as
Gavin Ralph and
Owen Havlik each connected from deep to quickly trim the gap. However, Macalester responded with well-timed shooting, led by Noah Hamburge, who finished with 20 points on 5-of-6 from three.
Micah Thompson delivered another double-double performance, putting up 19 points and a game-high 12 rebounds for his second straight of the season.
Jack Leifker matched him with 19 points of his own while adding six boards and four blocks. Ralph added 17 points, eight rebounds, and four steals, while
Brody Variano chipped in 14 points with two threes.
UWRF closed strong, pulling within six in the final 30 seconds after a fastbreak three from
Reggie Postel, but Macalester hit key free throws late and added a transition dunk to secure the win.
The Falcons will return to Don Page Arena on December 3
