EAU CLAIRE, Wis. — The No. 1-ranked UW-River Falls women's hockey team conceded its first loss of the 2025-26 season on Saturday at rival UW-Eau Claire, shut out 3-0 by the Blugolds.
The Falcons, now 4-1 overall and 1-1 in the WIAC, saw their nine-game winning streak over UW-Eau Claire come to an end.
Despite outshooting UWEC 35-24, the Falcons were snake bitten by the Blugold defense and goaltender Kambelle Freije.
After a scoreless opening 40 minutes, the home team opened the scoring early in the third period, and added another five minutes later to go up 2-0.
Late in regulation, the Falcons pulled netminder
Jordan O'Kane for the extra attacker, but the Blugolds capitalized with an empty-net goal to extend their lead to 3-0, sealing the win.
O'Kane made 21 saves while suffering her first loss of the season.
Brooklyn Riley,
Megan Goodreau, and
Gracyn Knowles shared the team-lead with five shots on goal each. UWRF went 0-for-2 on the power play.
UWRF looks to bounce back at home next Tuesday, Nov. 25, hosting St. Olaf College. Puck drop is set for 7:05 p.m. at Hunt Arena.
