MENOMONIE, Wis. — The UW-River Falls men's hockey team dropped a 3-2 decision Saturday evening at UW-Stout during the final game of the 2025 calendar year.
It took the Falcons just 18 second into the contest to strike first as
Jonny Meiers scored an even-strength goal with help from
Cole Teleki and
Max Collette to put UWRF up 1-0, where it stood through 20 minutes.
UW-Stout responded in the second period, using a power play goal early in the middle frame to even the score before taking a 2-1 advantage late in the period on an even-strength tally with 24 seconds remaining.
The Falcons answered midway through the third period when
Ben Portner netted the equalizer at 11:13, converting a setup from
Keenan Ingram to make it 2-2. The Blue Devils, however, reclaimed the lead with 53 seconds left, scoring the eventual game-winner at 19:06.
Brennan Boynton made 32 saves in goal for the Falcons, including 17 in the second period, as UWRF was outshot 35-27 for the game. The Blue Devils finished 1-for-6 on the power play, while the Falcons were unable to convert on their lone man-advantage opportunity. Portner and
Adisen Brueck led the Falcons with four shots on goal each.
UWRF (6-6, 2-4 WIAC) returns to action with another game against the Blue Devils to complete the three-game regular season series on Saturday, Jan. 3 at Hunt Arena.
