CLERMTONT, Fla. — The UW-River Falls softball team lost its games on day two of the spring trip to Florida, falling to Babson College 8-0 and Framingham State 9-5.
The losses dropped UWRF's record to 5-5 on the year. Kelly Aultman led UWRF with a four-hit performance.
UW-River Falls 0, Babson College 8
The Falcons got off to a rough start to day two of THE Spring Games, as Babson College scored one run off a wild pitch in the first inning and saw a flurry of four runs in the second inning, putting UWRF down 5-0 after two.
The Falcons managed two singles in the bottom of the first, but remained hitless for the following two innings, with the Beavers extending their lead to 7-0 after two more runs in the fourth.
UWRF tallied two hits in the bottom of the fourth, but was unable to score any runs. Babson responded in the top of the fifth with an RBI-triple that scored the Beavers' eighth run. The Falcons were unable to manage any runs in the bottom of the fifth, ending the game in an 8-0 loss.
Kelly Aultman led the way for the Falcons with a 2-2 performance at the plate. The Beavers totaled eight hits on the day, compared to four for the Falcons.
UW-River Falls 5, Framingham State 9
In the second game of the day, a huge sixth inning by Framingham State ultimately proved to be the difference maker.
Aultman singled in a run in the top of the first, putting the Falcons up 1-0 early on. Fast forward to the third inning, UWRF rallied three runs off an RBI-single from Natasha Burinda and a two-RBI double from Kaitlyn Hall.
Despite building a solid 4-1 lead heading into the bottom of the third, the Falcons allowed three runs in the bottom of the inning as the Rams mirrored the Falcons with an RBI-single and two-RBI double.
The teams battled out two scoreless innings, before the Falcons built a narrow 5-4 lead off a passed ball score.
The bottom of the sixth saw Framingham state rally six runs, coming off three singles, a two-RBI double, and a passed ball. The game ended early due to rain and inclement weather.
Hall led the team with two RBIs, while Aultman scored two runs and went 2-3. Natasha Burinda went 2-3 with one RBI and one run. Autumn Hughes tallied two runs off a 2-3 performance at the plate.
Up next, the Falcons will face Plattsburgh State and Hamline on March 18. First pitch against Plattsburgh State is scheduled for 2 p.m. ET.
