RIVER FALLS, Wis. — The UW-River Falls women's lacrosse team was victorious 16-7 in its game against Edgewood College at Ramer Field on Monday, March 24.
The win improved UWRF's record to 6-2 overall, increasing the team's current winning streak to four straight games. The victory is the first game of a busy week for River Falls, who will return to Ramer Field on Wednesday to host Saint Benedict in the team's 2025 WIAC opener.
Samantha led the way for UWRF, totaling six points off three goals and three assists.
In the first period, Edgewood grabbed a quick 1-0 lead off the opening draw control, before UW-River Falls responded with three straight goals — Samantha Hayek, Avery Watzke, and Brooke Glumack scored for the Falcons. The Eagles fought back to tie the game at 3-3 with 24 seconds to go, before Kylah Link scored with seven seconds remaining to give UWRF a narrow 4-3 lead after one.
An 11-0 advantage in shots and 7-0 advantage in shots on goal in the second quarter helped UWRF hold a 4-0 advantage in goals, as the Falcons rode a streak of five unanswered goals into an 8-3 halftime lead. The Falcons saw goals in the second quarter by Glumack, Hayek (x2), and Murphi Specht.
Edgewood scored the opening goal of the second half, before Molly Pierce's goal put UWRF's lead back to 9-4. Specht and Glumack went back-to-back on goals with under one minute to go, allowing the Falcons to jump out to a 11-4 advantage entering the final period.
UWRF held a 5-3 advantage in goals in the fourth quarter, taking a commanding 15-5 lead midway through. The Eagles managed to cut the deficit to as low as eight points, but one last goal from Kayden Hersback gave UWRF a decisive 16-7 victory.
Hayek scored her three goals off seven shots on goal. Brooke Glumack finished with five points off three goals and two assists. Glumack, Specht, and Morgan Leick led the Falcons with two caused turnovers each, while Specht had a team-high five draw controls. Annelise Rommeck earned the win in goal for the Falcons, while Abby Hammond also came in and made two saves.
As a team, the Falcons held a commanding 40-14 advantage in total shots and a 27-9 edge in shots on goal. UWRF went 16-20 on clears, while limiting Edgewood to 13-35.
Next up, the Falcons gear up to host Saint Benedict at Ramer Field on March 26 in the team's 2025 WIAC opener. The game is scheduled to start at 5 p.m.
